The Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has described the performance of the Flying Eagles at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey as “horrible”.
The
Coach John Obuh-tinkered Flying Eagles, Tuesday, crashed out in the
second round of the tournament, following a 2-1 defeat in the hands of
Uruguay, whose senior side, had earlier accounted for the elimination of
the Super Eagles at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
It
was double jeopardy for Nigerians, who in the space of a little over a
week, had seen their teams suffer consecutive defeats in the hands of
the South Americans at a global event.
And
reacting to the results, a member of the NFF’s Technical Committee,
Paul Bassey told Sports Vanguard that the Flying Eagles did not know
what they were doing in Turkey.
“Right
from the preparations for the African Youth Championship in Algeria to
the Toulon tournament in France and the tournament proper in Turkey,
this Flying Eagles team did not show us that they knew what they were
doing in Turkey.
“We
have never seen something like this before. This was a horrible
performance from a horrible team. It was simply horrible watching them.
Thank God that the nightmare is over and we can move on. I am sure that
Obuh knows that he has been given a lot of time to prove his worth but
sadly, Nigerians have not gotten results from him.
“We
have to move on with this team because what they showed in Turkey does
not represent what this country can offer. We have won two silver medals
at the FIFA U-20 level. We can do better than what we saw in Turkey and
for the NFF, it is time to move on with the cast and crew of this
Flying Eagles set of 2013”, added Bassey....like our fan page on facebook abroko zone..
