Transfer news: Yossi Benayoun keen to take on MLS challenge....

Yossi Benayoun: Ready to take on a new challengeYossi Benayoun is heading for the exit door at Chelsea this summer and has made a move to the MLS his preferred choice.
The 33-year-old midfielder has spent the last eight years in England turning out for West Ham United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
His contract at Stamford Bridge is now set to expire and the experienced playmaker feels it is time for a change of scenery, with a spell in America holding plenty of appeal.
Benayoun said in the New York Post: "I finish my contract on 30th June. At the moment I'm in talks with several European teams.
"I'm checking my options but, to tell you the truth, America is one of my favourite options.
"I'm trying to do everything I can to come to America and play in the MLS, and hopefully it works out in the next few weeks."
Benayoun's agent has revealed that a switch to the New York Red Bulls, who have expressed interest in the past, could be an option.
Ronen Katzav said: "Last season he was very close to signing with the Red Bulls, and now we are checking our options.
"We also have options in Europe - Spain, Germany and, of course, England a few clubs, top leagues.
"But we're trying to change a little bit the mentality of life a little bit from Europe. You know when you are a football player, one of the things is to test. To test things and maybe to change some things to another country, another mentality, another way of life and another football. This is the way we are looking..."

The Day ‘I Wept Like A Child’ – Atiku Shares Personal Political Story

Nigeria’s former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on May 29 – Democracy Day – reflected on Nigeria’s democratic journey so far and concluded that it must be preserved.
The Turakin Adamawa who told a story probably never been heard before by majority of Nigerians in 45 tweets, hoped that it would help “many of our young people who never saw the evils of military rule, appreciate our democratic journey.”
In a tribute to those whom he described as “fallen heroes of democracy,” who are “unsung and oft forgotten”, Atiku went down memory lane to as far back as the late 80′s.
“May 29 is Democracy Day in Nigeria, a day we celebrate democracy. Personally, I celebrate our democracy heroes on the day.
“Yesterday, I promised a story. I will begin shortly.
“In the late 80′s I met Shehu Musa Yar’Adua (SMY). He needed help Customs approvals. We became friends. This was the beginning -1
“About that time, SMY was bringing individuals across Nigeria to form a movement to pressure the IBB government to hand over -2
“This political movement was a big risk, as political organisations were banned then. But SMY was adamant the military had to leave -3
“SMY held meetings at his home in Ikoyi, organising quietly. The group came to be known as The Yar’Adua Group. He also recruited me -4
“Many people, including me, probably may not have joined politics but for Yar’Adua’s mentoring. He was great at organising & leading -5
“1989. Because Yar’Adua had organised, he was ready to register People’s Front of Nigeria (PFN) as soon as IBB lifted the political ban -6
“SMY & I funded PFN, the most organised party then, but in October 1989, the military banned the parties, SMY was banned from politics -7
“The military government formed the SDP and NRC. Because SDP closely resembled PFN in ideology, Yar’Adua led us into the SDP -8
“A few of us who were close to SMY had learned a lot of political organisation and were soon leading the SDP -9
“SMY encouraged me to run for governor in Gongola State, later Adamawa, which was created in 1991 -10
“I won the governorship but my opponents protested and I was banned. SMY encouraged me to let it go, and focus on the democratic goal -11
“I coordinated Yar’Adua’s campaign when he won the SDP presidential primaries, but the primary was cancelled. SMY was banned yet again -12
“SMY was persecuted by the government, which extended the military handover date to August 17, 1993, and tried to manipulate the parties -13
“Having been banned, Yar’Adua asked me to run for president! It was unbelievable. I shared all his beliefs, but never thought I could run -14
“Myself aside, Babagana Kingibe, a former Yar’Adua Group member whom SMY supported to SDP chairmanship, was also running – 15
“A newcomer, Moshood Kashimawo Oluwale (MKO) Abiola, a rich businessman and publisher, was also running for the SDP ticket then -16
“We of course had expected Kingibe, a former Yar’Adua Group member to support us, but he didn’t. SMY felt betrayed -17
“After the first ballot, I came 3rd, we met with Abiola to promise our support. He in return was going to appoint me as his running mate -18
“Because Yar’Adua and I were bent on ending military rule, our personal ambitions had to be sacrificed. We threw support behind Abiola -19
“In the two-way race between Abiola and Kingibe, Abiola triumphed with 2,683 votes to Kingibe’s 2,456 votes -20
“Abiola did not honour the agreement to make me his running mate. He picked Babagana Kingibe. Yar’Adua felt betrayed once again – 21
“To persuade Yar’Adua to support Abiola, I went to meet General Obasanjo, his former boss, in Ota Farm – 22
“Despite the betrayal, SMY was persuaded by Obasanjo and us to support Abiola again for the sake of democracy -23
“With Yar’Adua’s support, Abiola led the elections overwhelmingly. It was a landslide win. Then IBB’s government annulled the election -24
“We were saddened about the annulment, and tired of the endless transition. That’s why we agreed to the Interim National Government (ING) -25
“The ING, led by Chief Earnest Shonekan was overthrown 3 months later General Sani Abacha, the Defence Minister -26
“Despite the pretensions to get a new constitution, for which SMY & I were elected to a conference, Abacha had no democratic intentions -27
“Defying repeated threats from Abacha’s government, more than anyone else, Shehu Yar’Adua kept pushing Abacha for a handover date – 28
“If SMY enjoyed any respect as a senior officer under IBB, there was no such respect under Abacha. Yar’Adua was simply seen as a threat -29
“On March 9, 1995, Yar’Adua was arrested. Obasanjo was also arrested. While in jail, they heard the government had announced a coup plot -30
“Abdulsalami Abubakar, Chief of Defence Staff, announced that 29 officers and civilians had been arrested in connection with a coup plot -31
“Brigadier-General Felix Mujakperuo was picked to head the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) into the alleged coup -32
“Under torture, arrested officers were forced to confess to plotting a coup, and implicating Yar’Adua and Obasanjo -33
“A sham trial was staged. Yar’Adua was sentenced to death and Obasanjo to life imprisonment -34
“I was out of the country when Yar’Adua was picked up. When I returned, my residence in Kaduna was attacked by unknown gunmen in May 1995 -35
“Six policemen and one guard died in that attack. It is still a miracle to me how my wife, Titi, our son, Adamu, and I escaped unhurt -36
“In detention, SMY was more concerned about Nigeria’s future than about his life. He feared that Abacha had thrown Nigeria into chaos -37
“Because of SMY’s continued activism, even in Kirikiri Prisons, he was later transferred to Port Harcourt and Abakaliki Prisons -38
“Abacha was not satisfied keeping Yar’Adua in jail and intimidating me. He seized our biggest business & removed us from the board – 39
“Abacha’s security agents trailed me everywhere. They bugged my phones and seized my passport – 40
“1995. In the end, I fled the country, smuggled on a London bound flight from the tarmac. SMY was not so lucky -41
“Yar’Adua was repeatedly tortured in prison, and he was denied access to proper medical treatment, yet he persevered -42
“Yar’Adua kept in contact with associates through letters and tapes while in prison. He still believed in the course of democracy -43
“On December 8, 1997, I was in exile. A call came that Yar’Adua had died in Abakiliki Prison. I wept like a child – 44
“Terminally ill, SMY was deliberately denied treatment till the last minute. He died on the way to hospital, after approval finally came – 45
“But what was Yar’Adua’s legacy to Nigeria’s democracy?
“In Nigeria’s history, political parties had mostly been formed on regional platforms. SMY formed the first truly national movement
“The PDM, as his movement came to be known, spanned across all of Nigeria’s regions
“It was the PDM’s national outlook that formed the national philosophy of what became the People’s Democratic Party
“Today, I salute Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, an unsung and oft forgotten hero of modern Nigerian democracy
“Shehu believed in democracy, and paid the ultimate price. He died for democracy.”

Nigerian Rapper, M.I: “I Was Inspired By Gospel Songs”

Referred to as African Rapper No. 1, M.I., meaning Mr. Incredible, rose to prominence in 2006, when his song “Crowd Mentality” became popular in his home town, Jos. He released his widely acclaimed debut album, “Talk About It” in December 2008 and has won several awards including MTV Africa Music Awards in 2009 and City People Artiste of the Year 2012. He was nominated at the BET 2010 Awards for the Best International Act Category. M.I. is a UN Ambassador on Drugs and Crime.
Why did you decide to take up the offer and be part of the judges for X-Factor West Africa?

First of all, X-Factor is the best talent-hunt show in West Africa and I am glad to be part of it. Secondly, you don’t say ‘No’ to Glo. (laughs) When Glo asks you to do something, you can’t say ‘No’. It is not that I can’t say ‘No’ or that I am afraid to say ‘No’, but because they always make an offer that you are happy about. You are happy to be part of the family. which is what X-Factor is all about. It is a great platform for me to be on. Lastly, I am glad to be here helping a new generation of talents, which is what X-Factor is all about.
What exactly are you looking for in a contestant?
That X-Factor; nobody knows it. That is why it is called X.  You remember in Mathematics, they tell you to find ‘X’. You don’t know what X is until you find X. So, we are solving ‘Mathematics’ here; we are looking for X. When we find it, we will know what it is. For some people, it is their stage presence, their voice, carriage, the way they carry themselves, the way they present themselves. Whatever it is, we are look for the X-Factor. The competition is generally into music, singing and rapping. So far in the auditioning, we have a large number who have made it through. They have done a goodjob.
What are the measures that have been put in place to ensure that the process will not be rigged?
At the end of the day, the fans choose. If they choose a contestant because the person can smile or because the person can sing, so be it. Our powers as judges cease somewhere. After that, it is up to the fans. Until then, we will do our best to make sure we select only the best contestants to stand so that when it gets to that stage everybody has a fair chance to stand. The truth about it is that when you get to the finals and you have a big family and you come from a state where they love TV and they love music, you will have a good chance.
What have you been up to lately?
I have a new song called “Chairman”. We have been working on it for some time now; it will be released in June, after the X-Factor (contest). And, I still have many more things to come.
What were your early musical influences?
I grew up in the church. My dad is pastor. My mum can sing and that background helped me to love music. While I was growing up, I listened to lots of gospel songs from Panam Percy Paul, amongst others. All these people inspired me to be what I could be. Funny enough, you were there – at one of my first shows. That was my first performance in Lagos. It was quite a big step for me.
So from a gospel music background, you moved to secular music?
To me, it is all the same. How you live your life is different from what you do at your leisure. So, I am a musician. Sometimes, I will sing about God. At other times, I will sing about even my girl friend. If you listen to my music, you will notice that there is a wall. I don’t sing about everything. I sing about things that affect my life so, even if I sing a love song, it is from a positive point of view. I am a musician and a musician is different from a worship leader. A worship leader can go on to make commercial music; that is what we call gospel music.
Do you write your songs?
Yes, I write my songs but I get a lot of help. For instance, Ice Prince wrote “Africa Rapper Number One”. He came up with that chorus. Then, Flavour came and added his part. I always like to work with people. It helps to bring the best in you.
How has it been over the years?
I will say God is good but at the same time, when I say God is good, I know I have to work hard. It is a lot of dedication and hard work. Each time I reflect back, I realize that when that pistol went off, there were many people that I left behind. It is not because I am too good. It is just luck; God’s favour and so I am very grateful for all my blessings.
What message do you have for young people out there?
In this country today, the same way that people are working hard and moving forward, it is the same way that people are working hard and moving backward, doing a lot of bad things. My word to every young person is to please work hard and focus on the positive in the end. It will pay off. I have not reached the end of my life but I can tell you that it pays to work hard. It might not come as quickly as you want it to be. So, you have to be patient, work hard and definitely it will come.

Rihanna Reportedly Heartbroken Over Chris Brown And Karrueche Reunion

Reliable sources say Rihanna is not taking Chris Brown’s reconciliation with ex- Karrueche Tran too well.
From TVNZ
A source close to the 25-year-old star told the Belfast Telegraph newspaper: “Pals have told Rihanna not to get upset about Chris and Karrueche. They think the best revenge would be living well and looking good, but so far Rihanna’s answer has been to party the pain away.
“It’s understandable that she’d want to escape her feelings on this but she’s taking it way too far. Everyone around her wants her to get some help — they’re genuinely worried about her.
“She’s not in a good place and looks like she’s self-destructing. Her friends are really worried about her and think she needs to take time out to detox and refocus.”

Meet the married couples who never have sèx but insist they're happy

When married couples live like brother and sister. No sèx for years and they insist they are happy. Are they deluded - or just honest? Read and tell us what you think...
Most evenings, with their little girl safely tucked up in bed, Charlotte and Chris Everiss (pictured right) enjoy a kiss and a cuddle on the sofa in front of the television.
Happily married for a decade, the couple cannot bear to even imagine their lives without one another. Yet, astonishingly, they haven’t made love for more than two years.
Both insist that their marriage, which followed a two-year courtship after meeting on a dating website, is stronger than most. It’s just that sèx, they say, is not important to their happiness.

‘We still turn each other on but we don’t want to take it any further,’ says Charlotte. ‘We don’t have the time or the energy.

‘I find it hard switching off knowing that our four-year-old, Addison, is in the next bedroom. I think if Chris really missed sèx he would tell me, or I’d catch him watching pòrn on the internet as a substitute.

‘But he doesn’t seem to want to go back to having sèx, either.
‘We sound like Darby and Joan, I know - even though I’m only 34 and Chris is 40 - but that, to us, is contentment.'

Charlotte and Chris, it seems, aren’t the only ones whose sèx life has dwindled to nothing. A recent survey estimated that 15 to 20 per cent of couples have sexless relationships - defined by experts as making love fewer than ten times a year - while around 5 per cent go without altogether.

Actress Helen Mirren spoke for many of these couples earlier this year when she said: ‘I think the power of partnership in marriage is under-recognised in our society. That’s what makes marriages  work, not sèx.’

In a sèx-obsessed society, where everyone - young, old, male and female - seems to be boasting of how many times a week they ‘do it’, it may come as a relief to many that couples like Charlotte and Chris are happy to admit that sèx plays no part in their marriages at all.

Most couples who find themselves at a point where sèxual intimacy has died tend to confide their predicament to no one at all. But today three brave couples reveal to Femail how they have learned to live contented lives without sèx.

You don’t need a degree in psychology to work out why Charlotte, a social media consultant from Great Wyrley, Staffordshire - who in the early years of her marriage made love to her husband three times a week - may have problems surrounding sèx.

Three years ago, when their daughter was 18 months old, Charlotte almost died after an ectopic pregnancy resulted in her having a partial hysterectomy during a six-hour operation. Since then, she and Chris have made love only once, around ten months after her loss, an encounter from which she derived no pleasure.

Chris is understanding about her aversion to sèx. ‘It can be hard knowing that our cuddles will never lead to anything more intimate,’ he says. ‘Charlotte is a gorgeous woman and I’m still very attracted to her, but she nearly died and I count my blessings every day that she’s even still here.’

‘I have an hour-long commute at either end of my working day so, to be honest, most of the time I’m too tired for sèx anyway.’

Chris, a digital marketing manager, says he doesn’t discuss with friends the absence of sèx from his marriage, but believes it is more common than people admit.
‘I don’t know that we’re all that different from other couples, we’re just more open about it,’ he says.

In all other respects, the Everisses have an enviable lifestyle. They live in a beautiful, four-bedroom detached home, have a Mini Cooper convertible and a VW Golf parked on the driveway, and enjoy several foreign holidays a year.

Tracey Dowler, 42, (pictured above with husband) spent several months worrying that husband Julian, 55, didn’t want to make love to her because he was attracted to other women. But she has now accepted that the stress of his demanding job as director of a motor mechanical and haulage company is the reason they no longer have sèx.

And, while she admits there have been times when she has felt like walking out of their immaculate, three-bedroom semi-detached home in Rugby, Warwickshire, over the lack of intimacy, Tracey values other aspects of their marriage too highly.

‘We got married in 2007 after only knowing each other for six months, so it was pretty whirlwind,’ says Tracey, a wedding fair organiser. ‘When we were dating, we’d have sèx up to three times a night, which was wonderful, but after the wedding we only made love once or twice a week. We started going months between encounters and now we haven’t made love for well over a year.’

Tracey still feels very attracted to her husband, and he says the same of her. The couple are loving in other ways, holding hands when they go out together, kissing one another goodnight before going to sleep and saying “I love you” at the end of telephone conversations.

But Julian has 40 employees under him and says his job has become far more demanding in the years since their wedding. He gets up at 4am to start work at 5am, puts in a 12-hour day and, as he is on 24-hour call, his phone often rings several times during the night with drivers needing advice.
Weekends are no more relaxing as Julian also runs a photography business, which he is hoping will take off enough for him to concentrate on it full time.

They are both keen to have a family together. They’ve had IVF and plan to have another round of it in August.

‘We talk about rekindling our love life but never seem to get around to it,’ says Julian. ‘We had a weekend away at a country hotel a couple of weeks ago and I was so exhausted I spent most of the time asleep.’

Julian regards Tracey as his best friend and soulmate - a fact common, it seems, to many couples enduring sèxless marriages - and believes that once he retires they will be able to rekindle some semblance of romance.

Once a couple gets out of the habit of having sèx, however, this can be easier said than done.
‘Couples who don’t make love start living like brother and sister or friends and get out of the habit of seeing one another in a
sèxual way,’ says Relate counsellor Paula Hall.

‘If both partners want to reintroduce sèx, we encourage them to do so slowly, learning how to be sensual with each other and gradually building up to intercourse.’

Reps approve 14 years imprisonment for same sèx marriage in Nigeria

The House of Representatives yesterday Thursday May 29th approved 14 years imprisonment for persons who contracted same sèx marriage in the country.

This was sequel to a clause-by-clause consideration of a Bill for an Act to prohibit marriage or union entered between persons of same sèx, at the Committee of the Whole.

“Marriage or civil union entered between persons of same gender shall not be solemnised in any place of worship, either church or mosque or any place in Nigeria,” it said.

Introducing the bill, Rep. Albert Sam-Tsokwa ( PDP-Taraba) said that it sought to achieve a far reaching objective by outlawing same sex marriage and provide punishment for offenders.

It also set out a 10-year sentence for “any person who directly or indirectly makes public show of same-sèx amorous relationships’’.

“Any persons or group of persons that administers, witnesses, screen and shields the solemnisation of same sèx marriage in Nigeria on conviction, will be liable to 10 years imprisonment.’’

It would be recalled also that the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, had warned that his country would consider withholding aid from countries that did not recognise gay rights.

In Nov. 2011, the senate approved the bill that would make same-sèx marriages punishable by up to 14 years for the couple and 10 for anyone abetting such unions.

The bill is expected to be sent to the Senate for concurrence.
