Sagna set for City move

France and Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna will join English Premier League champion Manchester City from next season.
Sagna's contract at Arsenal expires at the end of June, and his move from the Emirates Stadium was widely expected after he reportedly rejected a two-year contract extension.
Sagna also posted a farewell message to Arsenal on social media before the transfer's announcement.
Sagna will join City for the club's preseason tour in the United States after the World Cup in Brazil, where he is with the France squad.
The 31-year-old right-back joined Arsenal seven years ago from French side Auxerre and played in 284 matches for the Gunners. But he did not win a single trophy in North London before lifting the FA Cup in his final appearance for the club last month in Wembley.
Sagna is expected to sign a deal estimated by British media at 140 000 pounds ($237 000) a week with City.
In a statement released on the Gunners' website, the club thanked Sagna "for his fantastic contribution."
City confirmed Sagna's arrival and said he will keep the No 3 jersey he wore at Arsenal...

Caballero joins Man City

Argentinian goalkeeper Willy Caballero has signed for Manchester City from Malaga on a three-year contract, the Premier League champions confirmed on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old has moved for an undisclosed fee in a switch that sees him team up again with City manger Manuel Pellegrini.
Cabellero played under Pellegrini when the Chilean was in charge of Malaga from 2010-2013.
"I am very happy, and really looking forward to the start of pre-season and performing well to help the team," said Caballero on the club's website mcfc.co.uk.
"This is a new challenge and a new league for me. I have been doing well in the previous years and my goal is to go on and hopefully perform at the same level for City."
City had been looking for a new goalkeeper to provide back-up for first-choice stopper Joe Hart following Costel Pantilimon's release at the end of last season.
And Caballero said he was ready to challenge Hart.
"I know I am coming to a big club with a very good goalkeeper," Caballero said.
"City already have a great goalkeeper in Joe Hart, but I will try and compete for the No 1 spot. I will do my best in the training sessions."
Caballero began his career with Boca Juniors in his homeland before signing for Spanish club Elche in 2004 where he spent seven years.
He headed for Malaga in 2011 and was named La Liga keeper of the season for 2012-13, Pellegrini's last with the Spanish club.
"The most beautiful moments of my career were under Manuel Pellegrini in Malaga, where we achieved big things and we made Malaga's name known around Europe," said Caballero.
"As for my new teammates, I have a very good relationship with Martin Demichelis, but I've never met Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero (City's three other Argentinian players).
"It's something I'm looking forward to. For me it is very good to have people from Argentina in the squad because I think it will be very helpful."
Caballero becomes City's third new signing of the summer after midfielder Fernando and full-back Bacary Sagna...

Chelsea swoop for Hajduk's Pasalic

Chelsea signed teenage Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split for an undisclosed fee on Wednesday.
Pasalic was due to join up with Jose Mourinho's squad for their first pre-season training session later on Wednesday after arriving at the Premier League club's Cobham head-quarters.
The 19-year-old is regarded as a dynamic young talent and has already featured in his country's Under-21 team.
He was also named in Croatia's provisional 30-man World Cup squad, but didn't make the final cut for the tournament in Brazil and has yet to make his senior international debut.
"I am very happy because I am now a Chelsea player," Pasalic told Chelsea's website.
"I am very impressed by the training ground and I must thank everybody at Hajduk. This is now a new start in my career.
"I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player."
The German-born youngster came to Chelsea's attention after enjoying a fine first full season in senior football during 2013-14.
He scored 11 times in 36 appearances in all competitions and helped Hajduk to a third-place finish in the Croatian league...

Moses needs to improve attitude

Chelsea winger Victor Moses has been in the news lately, albeit for the wrong reasons, as sources have revealed the player is not comfortable with the bench role he has been confined to for the last two group matches despite his injury worries.
The former Crystal Palace winger started the first group game against Iran but struggled to replicate his pre-tournament form and was subsequently substituted in the game in what looked like a precautionary move by team officials.
He did not make the bench against Bosnia-Herzegovina. which raised a lot of questions but he later took to the social media micro-blogging site, Twitter, to explain that he had a slight niggle and would be fit for the last group game against South American giants, Argentina.
Michael Babatunde started the Bosnia-Herzegovina game, and was later replaced by Ejike Uzoenyi as the Super Eagles won the game 1-0 in the second Group F game on 21 June.
Matters came to a head when Stephen Keshi later revealed to journalists that he was unaware of the player's injury concerns.
"I'm not aware that Moses has any injury problem," he said when asked about the fitness of the player, who has not featured for Nigeria since the opening day draw with Iran.
Moses was subsequently missing from the last Group F game with Argentina to fuel speculation that something was amiss, as he did not join the pre-match warm-up although Fifa had earlier listed him injured in their match day programme.
The 'Big Boss' was however quick to douse any fire insisting that there is nothing wrong between him and Moses as the Eagles were a united front.
"It's a purely medical issue. My last child is older than Moses, so why will I quarrel with my son?" Keshi queried.
"People must find out facts and not speculate especially when they have a capable media person in our midst."
A source close to the team's camp told supersport.com that Moses needs to imbibe team spirit as his demeanor has not been good lately.
"Moses is a young lad, but he needs to understand the concept of team bonding and unity. His attitude has to improve.
"Some of the federation members here are also not happy with him, I think he can do better because he is a good footballer. He just needs to improve his attitude," the team source said.
Nigeria came second behind Argentina in Group F of the 2014 Fifa World Cup and will face France in the second round on 30 June in Brasilia...

Cole, Eto'o leave Chelsea; Schwarzer stays

England defender Ashley Cole and Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o have left Chelsea but former Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has signed a new one-year deal, the club said in a statement on Tuesday.
Eto'o and Cole, both 33, had been expected to leave the Premier League side after their contracts came to an end last month.
Cole spent eight seasons at Chelsea after joining from Arsenal. He made 338 appearances and helped them to Champions League glory in 2012 and the Premier League and FA Cup double in 2010.
He retired from the England side after missing out on a place in Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
Eto'o arrived from Russian team Anzhi Makhachkala, scoring nine goals in 21 league appearances in his one season at Stamford Bridge.
Schwarzer, 41, made 13 appearances for the club last season after joining on a free transfer from Fulham.
In December he became the oldest player to make his debut in the Champions League when he featured against Steaua Bucharest.
Schwarzer will again provide cover for Czech Petr Cech and potentially young Belgium international Thibaut Courtois who could return to the club after spending three seasons with Atletico Madrid...

Chelsea agree Costa deal

Chelsea have agreed to sign striker Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.
The Spain international had long been linked with a move to the London side and completion of the deal appears to be imminent after the Blues said they had met the buy-out clause for the 25-year-old forward.
"Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa, with Chelsea meeting the buy-out clause for the Spanish international," said a statement on the club's website.
Atletico later confirmed that agreement had been reached on the buy-out clause, adding that Costa had expressed his desire to transfer to Chelsea at the end of last season.
It has been reported the eventual transfer fee could be in the region of £32 million ($55 million, 40 million euros).
Brazil-born Costa scored 35 goals for Atletico last season as they won the Spanish title and reached the Champions League final, only to lose in extra-time to city rivals Real Madrid.
And his desire to represent Spain, rather than Brazil, at this year's World Cup in his homeland backfired spectacularly as the reigning champions crashed out in the first round.
Costa appeared in two friendlies for Brazil last year before pledging his allegiance to Spain, prompting stunned Selecao and former Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari to state: "He is turning his back on a dream of millions, to represent our national team, the five-time champions in a World Cup in Brazil."
After seeing his dreams of World Cup glory with Spain in Brazil come to nothing, Costa said: "It's been a good year in many respects but a tough one in others."
Despite his World Cup travails, Costa appears to have a big fan in Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese complaining that a lack of strikers – despite the presence of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o at Stamford Bridge – last season prevented the third-placed Blues from surpassing Premier League winners Manchester City and runners-up Liverpool in the season just gone.
Last month Spanish sports daily Marca quoted Mourinho – whose Chelsea side lost in the Champions League semifinals to Atletico – as saying that "Costa is a footballer I want in my team".
Defender Ashley Cole and midfielder Frank Lampard both appear to be on their way out of Chelsea but former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas was signed from Barcelona last month on the day before Spain suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat by the Netherlands in their opening World Cup match in Brazil.
Meanwhile Chelsea also announced on Tuesday that veteran Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer had signed a new one-year contract at the age of 41.
Schwarzer made the short journey from nearby Premier League rivals Fulham to Chelsea on a free transfer last season as back-up to Petr Cech and went on to play 12 matches for Mourinho's men, including the semifinal with Atletico after the Czech shot-stopper was injured...

Mandzukic poised to join Atletico, Bayern say

Croatia forward Mario Mandzukic is poised to leave Bayern Munich and join Atletico Madrid, Bayern sports director Matthias Sammer said on Wednesday.
Mandzukic, 28, will replace Spain forward Diego Costa, who sealed a move to English Premier League club Chelsea last week, at Atletico.
"There is nothing signed yet but there is a verbal agreement between both FC Bayern and Atletico Madrid and also between Mario and Atletico," Sammer told a news conference, adding that the deal should be finalised soon.
There was no immediate confirmation from Atletico, who won their first La Liga title in 18 years and reached the final of the Champions League last season.
Mandzukic is considered surplus to requirements at Bayern following the arrival of forward Robert Lewandowski from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Mandzukic has spent two years with the German champions, scoring 33 goals in 54 Bundesliga appearances. He netted the opener against Dortmund in the 2013 Champions League final, which Bayern won 2-1...

Kroos set for Real Madrid move

Brazil's misery could yet be Real Madrid's gain with Germany star Toni Kroos poised to join the Spanish giants from Bayern Munich on the back of an outstanding World Cup.
The 24-year-old produced a man-of-the-match display with two goals and a pin-point accurate corner for Thomas Mueller's opener in the stunning 7-1 rout of Brazil in the semifinal on Tuesday.
But with his Munich contract set to expire in June 2015, Bayern's numerous renewal offers have all been rejected by Kroos.
On the eve of Germany's quarter-final win over France, Spanish newspaper Marca said a deal worth €25 million has been signed to take him to Real.
"I will be saying something only after the tournament," has been his standard reply to questions about his future plans. According to Munich-based tabloid TZ, Bayern have now withdrawn their offer of a new contract after Kroos wanted his salary raised from four to ten million euros.
That would have made him one of the club's top earners alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
At the start of the year, the British media insisted Manchester United were poised to take Kroos to England.
But according to reports, United's in-coming manager Louis van Gaal did not rate Kroos from his two years as Bayern coach before being fired in 2011.
But having played all six Brazil 2014 matches in an attacking midfield role, Kroos has been one of Germany's many World Cup success stories with four assists so far.
"Toni puts the ball every time where it needs to go," said veteran striker Miroslav Klose who claimed his 16th World Cup goal to make him the competition's all-time sole top-scorer.
Germany coach Joachim Loew says Kroos has been the key to their run to Sunday's final at Rio's iconic Maracana Stadium.
"Toni is someone who has brought plenty of movement to the team in the last two years," said Loew with Kroos' having won his 50th cap for Germany on Tuesday.
"He is in very good form at the moment and he has contributed significantly to our success."
Kroos played down his outstanding semifinal performance.
Certainly, it will be more valuable to his future employer to have a world champion on their books.
"It wasn't so bad, I have also other good games," he said on his performance against Brazil. "The main thing now is to stay focused for the final, we haven't won anything yet."/..

Argentina into World Cup final on penalties

Argentina beat the Netherlands 4-2 on penalties to reach the World Cup final after a dire two hours of defence-dominated football failed to provide a semifinal goal for the first time in the tournament's history on Wednesday.
Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero saved Ron Vlaar's first penalty then made a superb diving save to deny Wesley Sneijder, allowing Maxi Rodriguez to crash home the decisive kick as his side converted all four of their penalties.
The game was a forgettable one as the Dutch struggled to build any meaningful attacks and completed 90 minutes without a shot on target as Arjen Robben's last-minute effort was brilliantly blocked by Javier Mascherano.
Argentina were not much more adventurous and had only a handful of half-chances to their name as, in total contrast to Tuesday's match when Germany waltzed through a wide open Brazil to win 7-1, both defences were absolutely on top.
In Sunday's final at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro Argentina will play Germany in a repeat of the 1986 and 1990 finals - the first time the same two teams will have faced each other three times in the decider.
The Netherlands will play Brazil in the third-place playoff in Brasilia on Saturday.

Netherlands v Argentina into extra time

The World Cup semi-final match between the Netherlands and Argentina on Wednesday went into extra time with the teams level at 0-0 after 90 minutes. Argentina, Dutch level at halftime
Argentina and the Netherlands were level at 0-0 at halftime in their World Cup semifinal on Wednesday with Lionel Messi's side having most of the play and creating the best chances.
Messi's low free kick around the wall was saved by Jasper Cillessen in the 15th minute and Ezequiel Garay's diving header from Ezequiel Lavezzi's whipped-in corner went over the bar with the Argentina defender under pressure from Ron Vlaar. The winners will play Germany in the final on Sunday.

Bosnia coach Susic extends contract

Bosnia-Hercegovina coach Safet Susic on Wednesday extended his contract for two years, taking him into the campaign to reach the European Championships after guiding the first Bosnian team to reach the World Cup finals.
"I said that to leave the team would be painful for me. And that moment has not yet come," Susic told reporters after a meeting with the Bosnian federation that extended his deal.
"I am really happy to be continuing," added Susic, 59, a 1980s star with Paris St Germain and the former Yugoslavia who has been in charge of Bosnia since 2009.
"Safet Susic will manage our team in the qualifying for Euro 2016 in France, which will start for Bosnia with a match against Cyprus on September 9," the federation said in a statement.
Bosnia went out in the first round at the World Cup final finishing third in Group H with just a 3-1 win against Iran producing points. They lost to Argentina (2-1) and Nigeria (1-0).
He was criticised by some former internationals and media, but Susic said he expected Bosnia to qualify for Euro 2016 "and I hope that we will get a better result than in Brazil."
Bosnia are in Euro qualifying Group B with Belgium, Israel, Wales, Cyprus and Andorra...

Fifa suspends Nigeria Federation

Nigeria was suspended from international football on Wednesday because of government interference, Fifa said in a statement.
World soccer's ruling body sent a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation (FFF) last week expressing its concern after the NFF was served with court proceedings preventing its President from running the African country's soccer affairs.
"As a result of this decision, no team from Nigeria of any sort (including clubs) can have any international sporting contact," Fifa said.
"During the period of suspension, the NFF may not be represented in any regional, continental or international competitions, including at club level, or in friendly matches."
Fifa said the court order compelled the Nigerian Minister of Sports to appoint a senior member of the civil service to manage the NFF until the matter was heard in court without giving any date for the hearing.
The authorities then appointed a person who decided to convene an extraordinary general assembly on July 5, Fifa said.
"This extraordinary general assembly was convened in violation of the NFF statutes," added Fifa.
"The suspension will be lifted once the court actions have been withdrawn and the properly elected NFF Executive Committee, the NFF general assembly and the NFF administration are able to work without any interference in their affairs," added Fifa.
Nigeria, the African champions, reached the last 16 at the World Cup in Brazil before losing 2-0 to France...
