Stephen
Keshi has finally spoken out on Super Eagles’ scale of preference ahead
of the hectic June schedule. The Super Eagles has been in camp in
Nuremberg, Germany preparing for their upcoming fixtures, which
includes: May 31 friendly against the Tricolores of Mexico, two World
Cup qualifiers against Kenya and Namibia and the Confederation Cup in
Brazil all in the month of June.
The
Super Eagles will be representing Africa at the Confederation Cup, a
fore runner for the World Cup in Brazil; a prestigious tournament, but a
friendly affair in all its ramifications.
In
2009, Egypt represented Africa at the FIFA Confederation Cup, South
Africa 2009. The then African Champions put in so much energy into the
whole Confederation Cup affair, even causing upset when they defeated
Italy 3-0, only to lose out to Algeria in a bad- tempered qualification
play- off that was hosted in a neutral ground, Khartoum, Sudan.
Keshi’s
sounded too familiar with the 2009 incident when he responded to
questions asking him to choose between the FIFA Confederation Cup and
Qualifying for the World Cup 2014 with the Super Eagles.
“I
will choose qualifying for the World Cup each time. Yes, the FIFA
Confederations Cup is also good but nothing beats or compares to FIFA
World Cup that is the real deal. That is where I aim to be and where I
want my players to be playing,” Keshi without any hesitation answered
supersport.com.
“Make
no mistake we will give the tournament our best shot but it is really
to come back next year as one of Africa’s representatives at the World
Cup that we are working towards,” added Keshi.
